My Egg Donation Experience in San Diego: A Donor’s Journey at San Diego Fertility Center
My egg donation experience in San Diego
Traveling all the way from South Africa to donate my eggs, I was visiting San Diego for the very first time. Having my best friend by my side turned what could have felt like a purely medical trip into an incredible and comfortable adventure.
Whether you are a prospective donor wondering what the process actually feels like, or Intended Parents considering San Diego Fertility Center, I wanted to share my experience. Here is what it really looked like from the inside and why San Diego Fertility Center holds such a special place in my heart.
Settling into Sunny San Diego
We stayed in San Diego for about two weeks at a lovely hotel just a short walk from the clinic. Having everything so close made such a difference to my peace of mind.
Our morning walks to appointments quickly became our little routine. It gave us time to enjoy the Southern California sunshine before stepping into the clinic.
San Diego itself felt calm and relaxing, which really helped take the edge off the travel and medical side of the experience.
What It Was Really Like at San Diego Fertility Center
If you are thinking about becoming an egg donor, it is completely normal to feel nervous about the medical side of the process. But from the moment I walked into San Diego Fertility Center, I felt more at ease.
From the front desk staff and nurses to the doctors, everyone made me feel cared for. I never felt like just another patient on a schedule. I genuinely felt that I was in good hands.
For Intended Parents, knowing that your donor is being treated with warmth, care, and respect can also bring a great deal of peace of mind.
I won't sugarcoat it: the hormone injections were challenging at times. What made the experience so much easier was the connection I formed with the intended mother.
Throughout the cycle, she sent the sweetest check-in emails. When the injections were giving me a hard time, she shared a few simple tricks that had helped her through her own fertility treatment. I tried them, and they genuinely helped.
Knowing how kind, supportive, and involved she was made every needle prick feel worthwhile.
Tacos, Beaches and Special Moments
While clinic appointments and recovery always came first, my friend and I also made sure to enjoy our time in San Diego.
We made a bucket list, visited the local beaches and even spent a day at a nearby fair.
One of the highlights of our stay was a surprise from the recipient couple. They gifted us a meal at their favourite restaurant in San Diego.
The restaurant was right on the sand, with the beach just a few steps away, and the food was incredible. We went there to celebrate my friend's birthday, and sitting by the ocean having dinner together is a memory I will always treasure.
It was such a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture.
Recovery and Exploring Beyond San Diego
Thanks to the care I received from the San Diego Fertility Center team, my recovery after the egg retrieval was quick and smooth.
I felt back to normal quite soon, which meant my best friend and I were able to extend our trip and see more of the United States.
We eventually flew all the way to Portland, Maine, to visit Robin and spent about a month exploring the East Coast.
What started as a focused medical trip to California became an unforgettable American adventure.
A Note to Future Egg Donors and Intended Parents
Looking back, donating my eggs at San Diego Fertility Center was one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever had.
If you are considering becoming an egg donor but feel nervous about taking that step, having the right support around you can make an enormous difference.
Flying across the world with my best friend, forming a genuine connection with the family I was helping, and knowing that my donation could help them on their path to building a family is something that will stay with me forever.
For Intended Parents, my personal experience at San Diego Fertility Center was one of professional care combined with genuine kindness towards everyone involved.
It really was a once-in-a-lifetime journey and an experience I will always look back on with gratitude.
